ALWAYS BASKETBALL INTERNATIONAL CAMP
IT STARTED WITH BASKETBALL. AND A FRIENDSHIP.
FROM SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY TO ITALY
AND THAT OPENED THE DOOR TO ITALY
The story of Always Basketball International began years before the program had a name.
During the Syracuse University summer basketball camps, Coach V met a group of coaches and players visiting from Italy. The group was led by the late Gianni Asti, who would become an important mentor in Coach V’s basketball journey. That meeting opened the door to Italy, where Coach V was invited to coach at Gianni’s summer camp.
The following year, Coach V returned to Italy and spent a week coaching at a camp hosted by Francesco “Fra” Rossi and his club. It didn’t take long for Coach V and Fra to realize how similarly they saw the game — from teaching and practice organization to player development and game strategy.
What began with a chance meeting at a basketball camp in Syracuse had now grown into a friendship thousands of miles away in Italy. That week marked the beginning of a basketball partnership that would eventually become Always Basketball International.
Coach V and Fra decided to create the kind of international basketball opportunity they wished they had experienced as young coaches themselves.
They wanted to bring coaches from different countries together — not simply to coach basketball camps, but to share ideas, learn from one another, build friendships and create an international basketball network.
In Italy, those coaches would collaborate with Coach V and Fra while coaching young players under a shared basketball philosophy — bringing their own experiences, cultures and perspectives to the court and learning from each other along the way.

ITALY: WHERE IT TOOK ROOT
Italy became the foundation of Always Basketball International — the place where an idea shared by two coaches grew into an international basketball experience connecting players, coaches and communities.
Year after year, the program reached new cities across Italy, building relationships with local clubs and giving young players the opportunity to learn from coaches with different basketball backgrounds and perspectives.
